About this song
The song was a work in progress for years, first played on piano by Axl Rose around 1983, when Tracii Guns recalled it being called "November Rain" while the band was recording an EP for L.A. Guns. It became the centerpiece of the twin double albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, released at the same time. The lyrics and video are based on Del James's short story "Without You", and the song reached #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and #9 in Germany.
What it's about
The song is a depressing autumn tale of lost love, told through a desperate vocal and heartfelt piano.
