About this song
Melanie Martinez told Artist Direct that the song is about being okay with being crazy, and she described it to Noisey Vice as very lyrical and hip-hop, tied to her transition and Cry Baby's transition into embracing who they truly are. The song's story and illustration appear on the final page of the Cry Baby storybook. The music video was released on September 23, 2017, and opens with Cry Baby in her room noticing a "Drink Me" bottle, a nod to Alice in Wonderland, before passing out into a pastel, nightmarish Wonderland where her stuffed animal friends save her from terrifying situations.
What it's about
The song is about accepting being imperfect, insane and emotional, and feeling safe being exactly who you are. Cry Baby wouldn't want to be anyone else.
