About this song
Uprising is from Muse's 2009 album The Resistance, which was heavily based on George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984. Matt Bellamy said the song was influenced by glam rock, 80s synths, riots and the more eccentric protesters at the G20 protests. The music video won the MTV award for best special effects.
What it's about
The song centers on a rebellion against a controlling government, with the protagonists realizing they have the power to fight back. Chris Wolstenholme said it expresses a deep mistrust of people in power, whether government or bankers, and a sense that people are being told to keep quiet and accept things as they are.
