Lay Me Down

About this song

Lay Me Down was released on Sam Smith's debut album, In The Lonely Hour, as its lead single. The singer said they wrote the song after deleting a man who did not respond to them from their social media account. It was re-recorded for a 2015 re-release after Smith's commercial success.

What it's about

The song deals with unrequited love, following Smith's experience of falling for a straight man who was not interested in them. Much of the album covers this same theme.
