About this song
Dolores O'Riordan wrote the song in 1993 during the band's English tour. It was written in memory of two young boys, Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball, who were killed in an IRA bombing in Warrington, England, despite two phoned-in warnings. In January 1994, O'Riordan introduced a performance of the song at The Astoria in London.
What it's about
The song addresses the violence of the decades-long conflict in Northern Ireland, known as The Troubles, between nationalists and unionists. O'Riordan described it as a cry against cruelty to people and children, and against the violence and the war in the north of Ireland.
