About this song
Penned by Beyoncé and Rich Harrison, it is the lead single from Beyoncé's first solo album Dangerously In Love. The song topped the charts in both the US and the UK in 2003, and it earned two GRAMMY Awards in 2004 for Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The hook is sampled from "Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)" by The Chi-Lites, and Jay-Z wrote a verse on the night Beyoncé had to turn in the album.
What it's about
The song is about falling in love and doing things you wouldn't normally do, without a care. Its hook grew out of Beyoncé looking at herself in a studio mirror and thinking she looked crazy.
