Love On Top

About this song

Beyoncé took inspiration from her state of mind while playing Etta James. The up-tempo R&B song is a throwback to 1980s music and shows styles similar to Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and The Jackson 5. It includes six key changes, and Beyoncé uses her high range when repeating the chorus near the end.

What it's about

The song is about a man she can always call on, even after enduring grief and hard work, and who in the end has earned her love and respect.
