About this song
The song is a break from the band's usual light-hearted material, and it ends on a life-affirming note as the narrator decides not to go through with it. Its title also references a skit from the HBO sketch show Mr. Show With Bob and David, in which a fictional band writes a song called Try Again (Adam's Song).
What it's about
The song tells the story of a young boy writing a suicide note, but he ultimately decides not to go through with it. Mark Hoppus has said that Adam serves as a metaphor for the depression he felt while touring with the band, feeling lonely on the road with nothing waiting for him at home.
