About this song
The song was produced entirely acoustically, with upright bass, cello, and brushes on the drums. It was the only blink-182 track where Travis used brushes instead of drumsticks, a choice he repeated for the first time in 20 years on 2023's "ONE MORE TIME". Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus wrote it in two parts, combining two songs into one, and it was inspired by The Cure's "The Lovecats". The track peaked at #1 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart, was certified Gold by the RIAA, and went on to inspire The Chainsmokers' "Closer".
What it's about
The song is a haunting look at how depression can affect a relationship and the fallout that follows.
