The song was born from a joke Martin made about a song called "Drinks on Me", which changed to "Drink from Me" after the band objected to the original line. Beyoncé was then asked to sing on it, and it is one of four collaborations on the album. It was previewed on Twitter on November 24, 2015, before the album's December 4, 2015 release, and its official music video was uploaded on January 29.
