About this song
The melody of The Scientist is inspired by the piano part of Oasis's Don't Look Back in Anger. Its music video is known for playing in reverse chronology, and Chris Martin had to learn the song backwards so he could sing forwards while walking backwards. The video's idea came to director Jamie Thraves independently, and he waited for a song that suited it.
What it's about
The song is a mellow reflection on trying to analyze a broken relationship.
