About this song
Frank Ocean released "Pyramids" as the second single from his debut studio album, channel ORANGE. The song first appeared in a two-minute teaser video shared by Ocean on Tumblr on June 8, 2012, and he posted the track on SoundCloud and Tumblr right after. A music video directed by Nabil Elderkin followed on September 17, 2012.
What it's about
The nearly ten-minute song traces the history of the Black woman, from a queen in her homeland to a degraded role in the Western Hemisphere. It draws a parallel between the historical Cleopatra and Mark Antony and a modern couple, where the woman has betrayed her partner and now works as a stripper to support him, ending with the idea of moving from gods to dogs.
