About this song
"Clint Eastwood" was the debut single from the virtual band Gorillaz, released in 2001. Del Tha Funky Homosapien raps on the track, which was produced largely by Dan the Automator. A remix by Ed Case in the UK garage style became a bigger radio hit in the UK than the original album version.
What it's about
The song is part of the Gorillaz mythology, with Del playing a spirit that possesses Russel, the band's drummer, whose eyes are clouded by the spirits of friends killed in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn. It uses this story to explore the conflict between ego and spirit, contrasting the mellow hook with Del's rap that calls listeners to action.
