Mercy

About this song

Originally titled "Lamborghini, Murci," this track is the first single from Cruel Summer. The beat was originally produced by Lifted, and Kanye added intro vocals that sample Super Beagle's 1996 dancehall track "Dust a Soundboy." The song has been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA and peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

What it's about

The song uses "Mercy" as a symbol of materialism and excess, an ironic twist on the word's usual associations with compassion and forgiveness. It draws a contrast with Matthew 5:7 and centers on themes of wealth and power.
