Wash Us In The Blood

About this song

The song was first planned as the lead single for an album called God's Country, which later became Donda. An instrumental version debuted at the premiere of Kanye West's opera Nebuchadnezzar in November 2019, and a demo leaked in June 2020. Kanye West later suggested the music video was directed by cinematographer Arthur Jafa, though the song did not end up on Donda.

What it's about

The title points to West's Christian faith, referencing the idea of being washed in the blood of Jesus Christ's sacrifice, a concept tied to the cleansing power of Christ's blood in 1 John 1:7.
