About this song
Gerard Way wrote the song for his brother, bassist Mikey Way. Mikey had temporarily left the band during the recording of The Black Parade due to severe anxiety, but agreed to rejoin after hearing the track. The song was originally titled "The Saddest Music in the World", and the band changed the name to avoid confusion with the movie of the same name.
What it's about
The song is the final proper track on the album and leaves it open to the listener whether The Patient dies. Its message centers on fearless perseverance.
