About this song
"Counting Stars" is the first track on OneRepublic's third studio album, Native. Lead singer Ryan Tedder was inspired to write it during writing sessions with Beyonce in the Hamptons. The song has sold over ten million copies in the United States alone.
What it's about
The song can be read as a hopeful take on life, love and the future, rejecting materialism. It can also be read as an ironic portrait of a questionable religious cult, with the singer mindlessly doing what he is told.
