About this song
"Rosa Parks" is the lead single from OutKast's 1998 album Aquemini. The song did not become the duo's biggest seller, but it established their standing as pioneers of Southern hip-hop. André explained that he first offered the beat to the group Total, but they could not use it, so the duo recorded it themselves. Big Boi said he came up with the hook at home while playing the music loudly in his bedroom.
What it's about
The song takes its name from the civil rights figure Rosa Parks, who in 1955 refused to give up her bus seat in Montgomery, Alabama. The incident is widely seen as one of the catalysts of the Civil Rights Movement.
