About this song

André says the song started from a sample he had chopped up, and that he was into reggae and listening to a lot of Bob Marley at the time. He was also inspired by Iceberg Slim's albums, which were spoken word over beats. Big Rube came in after André laid down his verse first, and Big called his contribution smokin' word. Erykah Badu was originally planned to appear on the track but ended up on Liberation instead.

What it's about

The song is a soulful, funky horn-filled jam with reggae vibes and a nod to Good Times. Its meaning is not explained in the text.
