About this song
Pearl Jam's version was a cover of a song first recorded by Wayne Cochran in 1961, and later revived by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers in 1964. Eddie Vedder found the song at a record shop and brought it to the band. The band recorded it for its fan club, but radio stations got hold of it and began playing it, and it reached #2 in the US in the summer of 1999. It remains the band's biggest pop-crossover success, and sales of the single benefited refugees in Kosovo.
