No Role Modelz

About this song

The song was already a fan favorite on Cole's tour before its release as the fourth single from his third album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Its hook interpolates Project Pat's 2001 hit "Don't Save Her," and it was produced by Phonix Beats and J. Cole. A clip of a speech by President George W. Bush appears in an interlude before the bridge.

What it's about

The song addresses shallow, materialistic women whom Cole sees as shaped by reality TV stars rather than real role models. Cole also questions his own position, admitting he had no role models growing up and that he indulges in empty lust even though it doesn't make him happy.
