About this song
In 2013, J. Cole released the song as the lead single from Born Sinner, timed for Valentine's Day. Cole's Facebook page described it as a continuation of Dreams, a track from his second mixtape, The Warm Up.
What it's about
According to Cole, the song works on two levels: it is about his love for a girl and also his love for hip-hop, which keeps him up all night trying to make chart-topping love songs. The idea of a power trip also reflects his obsession with a woman, to the point of being willing to kill for her, and his drive to keep rising in the rap industry.
