deja vu

About this song

"deja vu" is the second single from Olivia Rodrigo's debut studio album, SOUR, and followed the breakout success of her debut single, "drivers license." The song is musically more upbeat than its predecessor, and its bridge and outro show influences from Taylor Swift, including an interpolation of her song "Cruel Summer" that was officially credited months after release. The music video stars actress Talia Ryder as a woman whom Olivia spies on and imitates, and it ends with the woman revealing she knew all along.

What it's about

The song finds Olivia beginning to move on from heartbreak while questioning whether her ex's new relationship is genuine and whether he really feels what he claims for the new girl. She also pities the new girl, who she feels is not experiencing anything special with him.
