About this song
"All I Wanted" was originally planned under the title "All I Wanted Was You". Hayley Williams said in her diary, which came with the deluxe version of the album, that the stripped-down closing track was written about her boyfriend, New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert. She explained that insecurities surfaced when Gilbert left to tour for the first time since they started dating.
What it's about
The song is a breakup song in which the speaker loves someone so deeply that they become everything the speaker wants. The speaker's own desires and goals seem small next to being together.
