About this song
Featured on Radiohead's 1997 album OK Computer, the song was recorded at 3 AM in a ballroom at the historic St Catherine's Court. Its arrangement uses multi-layered arpeggiated guitars, electric piano, unconventional time signatures and a Spector-esque "Wall of Sound".
What it's about
Thom Yorke describes the song as a reaction to sentimentality, the way people are bombarded with emotion that feels like it's all on the same level. Jonny Greenwood links it to a feeling of vacancy and distance, like being in a transit zone among thousands of people.
