About this song
S&M was released as the fourth single from the album Loud. Rihanna said in a 2010 Spin interview that she saw the song metaphorically rather than sexually, and that she found its message bad ass. Its risqué music video, which showed Rihanna fully nude, led to an immediate ban in several countries and was flagged on YouTube for mature content, though that flag has since been removed.
What it's about
The song is an ode to sex, sadomasochism, bondage and BDSM fetishes. Rihanna has framed its message as being about staying strong and not letting people's talk affect you.
