About this song
Weezer's first single from their 1994 self-titled debut album, the song was first written by Rivers Cuomo in 1991. Cuomo said he was trying to write a Velvet Underground-style song and came up with the guitar riff while playing an acoustic guitar. He later realized the riff was nearly a copy of Metallica's Sanitarium.
What it's about
Cuomo has described the song as a feeling of being undone when a train stops and a visitor knocks on your door. He said it was meant to be sad, though many listeners find it funny.
