About this song
"Stars" is the first collaboration between JID and Yasiin Bey, who had been fans of each other for some time. Yasiin praised JID in a 2017 interview on HOT97, calling him a new artist coming through from Dreamville. JID also noted, before the release of The Forever Story, the contrast between sampling Mos Def's "Ms. Fat Booty" on that album and having Yasiin Bey on it.
What it's about
JID raps about the beginning of his rap career and his efforts to make it as an artist.
