About this song
The song is built around a real robbery story involving Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, who was planning a second robbery at a local KFC in the '90s where Kendrick's father, nicknamed "Ducky," worked. Top Dawg later signed a 15-year-old Kendrick to his label, Top Dawg Entertainment, and Duckworth is Kendrick's legal surname.
What it's about
The story centers on how Ducky's generosity led Top Dawg to spare his life during the planned robbery, which could otherwise have ended in his death. It is a tale of how that moment connected to Kendrick's later career, years afterward.
