LOYALTY.

About this song

The song marks the first collaboration between Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna. Its chorus interpolates a Roc-A-Fella Records maxim from Jay Z's 2000 track "Get Your Mind Right Mami," a line Kendrick had previously referenced on "The Heart Part 2." A music video directed by Dave Meyers was released on July 28, 2017, and the song won a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 2018 Grammys.

What it's about

The song explores the value and necessity of complete loyalty and honesty in both friendships and romantic relationships. Rihanna's outro touches on the struggle of staying humble within success.
