About this song
Michael Jackson came up with the idea for the song in 1984, first as a Western musical with him playing a gunslinger. After he didn't like the early sketches, he switched the concept to a gangster scene and wrote basic lyrics around the hook. The song was an international hit, topping the charts in Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands and peaking at number 7 in the US, and it is also known for the dance routine in its music video, including an anti-gravity lean.
