About this song
Eminem wrote the song in late 1996, after losing his cooking job at Gilbert's Lodge days before his daughter's first birthday, when he had only about $40 to buy her a gift. It was recorded in 1997, and it is one of only two tracks on The Slim Shady LP that is told from Marshall Mathers' own perspective rather than the Slim Shady persona.
