Swimming Pools (Drank)

About this song

"Swimming Pools (Drank)" is the lead single from the album good kid, m.A.A.d city. The description suggests the song's swimming pool imagery may be a reference to John Cheever's 1964 short story "The Swimmer." Kendrick Lamar has said he grew up in a household where people were either casual drinkers or drunks, and that this experience shaped the record.

What it's about

The song, which sounds like a club anthem, is an introspective look at peer pressure, self-defeating attitudes and the social forces that push people toward drinking and alcoholism. Swimming pools serve as a metaphor for drinking and alcoholism.
