About this song
Eminem said in a December radio interview with Shade 45 that he began writing the song as letters he thought he would give his daughter Hailie when she was about to be born. The song takes place in 2007 and leads into an overdose and missing Christmas and her birthday. It is followed by the song Arose, which explores that moment more fully.
What it's about
The song is a dedication to Eminem's daughter Hailie, tracing his thoughts on how he planned to raise her from before her birth through childhood. The third verse considers how growing up in the spotlight will affect her, and how he exposed her and their troubled family life to the public from a young age.
