About this song
Houdini is the lead single from Eminem's twelfth studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). It revisits the catchy, morbid sound of his early 2000s work, with Jeff Bass of the Bass Brothers returning as a collaborator, and it heavily samples and interpolates the Steve Miller Band's 1982 track Abracadabra. Eminem first teased the single on May 20, 2024, and announced its May 31 release in a video of a FaceTime call with magician David Blaine.
What it's about
The song is named after the magician Harry Houdini, known for his death-defying stunts. Eminem nods to the Chinese Water Torture Cell stunt he had replicated in his 1999 track Role Model.
