About this song
Skylar Grey wrote the chorus in under fifteen minutes and recorded it herself for Alex Da Kid's demo. Eminem heard the demo, liked the beat and the chorus, then wrote his verses and asked Rihanna to sing the chorus. The song was later followed by a sequel, "Love the Way You Lie (Pt. II)", narrated mainly from Rihanna's perspective. It became Eminem's biggest-selling single, with over 12 million copies sold in the US alone, and was the UK's best-selling song of 2010.
What it's about
The song reflects on ambivalent and abusive relationships, with Eminem and Rihanna drawing on their experiences with their former partners, Kim and Chris Brown.
