About this song
The song was influenced by K-Solo's little-known 1990 track "Real Solo Please Stand Up". It became the lead single for The Marshall Mathers LP after Eminem and Dr. Dre quickly finished it in the studio just before a deadline, following Eminem's worry that he couldn't match "My Name Is". Shortly after its release, Emily Ellis released a parody version, "Will The Real Slim Shady Please Shut Up", performed from the perspective of Christina Aguilera.
